Angkor wat and other temples

Our day began abruptly at 4.30am; not a time I like to be awake at. We got dressed and at 5 met our tuk tuk driver outside the hostel, not the same guy as yesterday, who was asleep in a hammock he'd put inside the tuk tuk. After a quick phone call a confirmed that this was a friend of the guy and not some weird scam, and set off to Angkor Wat temple to watch the sunrise. We arrived at the entrance fairly quickly and each paid the $20 entrance fee. We sat on a wall to watch, and although technically not watching the actual sun rise, we spend 40 minutes or so watching it get light.

Afterwards we headed into the temple itself. It was huge and very spectacular, the walls had amazing carvings on. I am still yet to access my camera photos but when I do there'll be plenty to come! We also saw a litter of tiny kittens who were so cute and tried to rescue a teeny baby bat who must have fallen </3

After looking round there for an hour or so our tuk tuk driver drove us onto the many other temples. Without photos this isn't a very effective post but they were all very beautiful, especially one we saw with lots of tree roots embedded in the buildings.

We headed back to the hostel late morning; it was already boiling hot so this was a good way to do it. Fairly soon after we want out for food at a local guesthouse which was cheap and nice, and then headed back to the gelato shop again. We wanted to explore the city more but decided it was too hot and went back to the hostel.

After an afternoon of napping we headed back into town around 6 in search of a restaurant. After some confusion we managed to track it down and had curry in such a posh looking restaurant but it was really affordable which was lucky. Afterwards we wandered round the night market for a bit, Lauren got 2 pairs of trousers for the price the woman originally wanted for 1 and I got a dress for half the quoted price. Then we went to a mini mart and I bought some stamps and then headed back to the hostel.
